Four missing after boat carrying army officers capsizes

Officials are searching for five men, including four army officers, who went missing after a boat that they were in capsized in Rakhine State’s Pazun River, near Buthidaung Township.

The boat was carrying a total of eight passengers, including seven officers and one helmsman. The group had gone to nearby Kyaung Taung village and were returning to Buthidaung on Saturday night when the boat capsized.

An officer who spoke to 7Day said that the capsized boat was one of two that were heading back to Buthidaung. The other boat was carrying six officers and one helmsman, all of whom are safe.

While the other boat managed to save three officers from the capsized vessel, the remaining four officers and the helmsman were still missing as of Monday evening. Among the missing officers is a police chief.

Additionally, authorities confirm that some weapons, including three rifles, are also still unaccounted for.
