Five foreigners arrested with over 1000 kilos of meth, ketamine

A gang of five foreign drug smugglers was arrested after one of them was caught while trying to transport 160 grams of ketamine out of Myanmar at Yangon International Airport on November 18.

According to a police officer from the Yangon Northern District Police Force, the suspect Cai Jeng Zi is from Taiwan and lives on the 11th floor of the Ocean Supercenter Pazundaung building.

After the initial arrest, police arrested the other four alleged smugglers while they were attempting to transport drugs in plastic bags through a Yangon jetty.

One police officer told The Voice: “They store drugs somewhere. We were informed that they were about to send these drugs to a jetty by car.”

Hung Chun Kin, 22, from Hong Kong and Weng Wei Jong, 23, from Taiwan were arrested in possession of 1,100 kilos of crystal meth packaged in 37 plastic bags and two backpacks on November 18 at 8:30pm.

Their car was stopped by police on Pazundaung Road in Mingala Taung Nyunt Township.

Later, Lei Cheng Chon, 28, and Lin Shin Chang, 22, both Taiwanese, were arrested at the Mahabandoola Housing Complex.

Charges have been filed against all five at the Mingala Taung Nyunt police station.
