City Mart now apparently giving out free plasters with your food

A post regarding a rather troublesome photo of a box of food from City Mart has been making its rounds on the Myanmar Facebook scene.

The post was originally uploaded by a Mr S Sai Lu, an employee at the Emirates Airline Airport Services in Yangon.

Mr Lu opened his post explaining that one day, one of the Emirates flights flying into Yangon International Airport had Mr Lu’s friend, a Myanmar stewardess, onboard.

Knowing that she’d probably want to enjoy some Myanmar food, Mr Lu stopped by the Myaynigone City Mart on his way to work.

There, he bought some traditional Myanmar snacks and gave it to his friend as a present during the short time that her flight was at the airport. The woman was delighted and was excited to sharing her country’s food with the other stewards and stewardesses onboard.

The next day, his friend sent him this rather unpleasant (to say the least) photo.

According to her, everything was going great and her colleagues were enjoying the Myanmar potato semolina cake that Mr Lu had bought. It was only when they had nearly finished everything that they found a plaster inside the food.

Everyone freaked out and tried to induce themselves to throw up, which is understandable considering that it’d be a small disaster if a flight’s entire crew fell ill mid-air.

Mr Lu’s friend was humiliated, and felt as though she had left her colleagues with a bad impression of Myanmar.

In his post, Mr Lu also said that he too was now embarrassed to show his face around any other Myanmar flight crew members at the airport.

“City Mart is the country’s largest supermarket chain, and as such, should have higher hygienic regulations and standards of customer care,” Mr Lu concluded.

If you’re thinking that this is a one-off accident, think again. The post’s comments section has lots of people relaying their own City Mart horror stories, including bad vegetables that had to be immediately thrown away, and brown meat that was oozing slime.

Of course, until City Mart has any real competition within the industry, they’ll probably keep ignoring customer complaints. Additionally, most of us still have no choice but to keep buying from what some commenters have now dubbed “Shitty Mart.”

That might seem harsh, but hey, the truth hurts. Although, it seems like they’ll have no trouble finding a plaster to put on that wound.
