Alleged attacker tries to hide in tree after woman assaulted and robbed

A 25-year-old woman was beaten and robbed by three men on a motorbike while she was on her way home from work in Mayangone Township on Sunday evening.

One of the alleged attackers, who are accused of hitting the victim on the head and grabbing her bags, was caught by witnesses as he tried to hide in a tree.

Local police told 7Day News Journal that passersby gave chase to the three assailants, causing them to crash their bike into a drain.

A local resident said: “We followed after them as soon as they beat and robbed her.”

Two of the men escaped on foot but 18-year-old Aung Thaik, who tried to hide in shrubbery near Kaytumati Monastery, was apprehended.

The victim is undergoing treatment at North Okkalapa Hospital.
