9 photos that show the weird, wondrous side of Myanmar life

Life in Myanmar has its ups and downs. And, sometimes, it’s just damn funny. In the both the “LOL” and “eh?” senses.

These photos, which went viral on social media in the country this week, give you a hint.

1) A dog’s life

The text reads: “I bite.”

2) Sharp overheads

During the construction of a high-rise, the firm behind it puts up a sign to warn passers-by that, though they could be hit by falling glass from the 21st floor, the company takes no responsibility.

3) Boss betel-seller

This betel-seller couldn’t give two s**ts about the sign beside her that prohibits people from chewing or spitting out betel and outlines the numerous health impacts.

4) Selfie

This dude also could not give two s**ts that the building is burning down behind him.

5) Fire-starter

This visibly, um, burned sign is clearly not doing a great job telling people not to set fires in the forest.

6) ‘Two females and two gays’

We’re not sure how to feel about this unusually specific job ad in Myanmar that requests “two females and two gays”…

7) Determination

No damn flood gonna keep this guy from lunch.

8) Let there be light

Let’s say gardening isn’t a strongpoint of the Yangon government.

9) Authorities in action

… But shepherding totally is. Yangon traffic police help a vulnerable citizen cross the road.
