Tamwe commuters face months of roadworks as flyover construction begins

Tamwe Township commuters: brace yourselves. Construction of a Y-shaped overpass at one of the most congested junctinos in the city is expected to take 18 months.

Local firm Shetaung Construction has already begun work at Tamwe Junction, at the intersection of East Race Course, U Chit Maung and Banyadala Roads, according to state-run newspaper the Global New Light of Myanmar.

The junction has become a daily hell for those who have to pass through its traffic snarls.

Since 2011, the Yangon regional government has carried out multiple overpass projects intended to relieve mounting congestion in the city, including buildin the Myaynigone and Shwegondine flyovers.

With one two-way, four-lane arm and another one-way, two-lane section, this latest is going to look a little something like this:

 

But, in the meantime, enjoy the next year-and-a-half…
