SANCHAUNG

Otherwise known as “Little Kachin”, this mid-town area has long been popular with members of the northern Kachin ethnic minority. As such, there are some exceptionally good restaurants serving their spicy brand of cuisine. The middle-class neighborhood, home to some solid shopping malls as well as wet markets, is also popular with the expat crowd. They can usually be sighted at the shi-shi rooftop bar that – like many buildings in the area - gazes onto the luminous Shwedagon Pagoda.
