Two men were killed yesterday morning when their taxi slammed into the back of a truck parked on the side of the road in Mingaladon Township. One of the deceased was the driver.

Members of the Pale Myothit Volunteer Fire Brigade rescued the taxi’s four other passengers, who are receiving treatment for severe head and chest injuries at the North Okkalapa hospital.

A member of the brigade also posted graphic photos of the aftermath here.

“We went to the scene as soon as we heard about the accident. The people in the taxi were friends. They went to Htaukkyant to eat fried rice. The roof of the car opened. The driver died on the spot. The rest were thrown from the car. Although the air bags deployed, the crash still caused deaths and injuries,” said a member of the Pale Myothit Volunteer Fire Brigade told Eleven.

In May, Myanmar’s roads had an average of 44 accidents, 12 deaths, and 68 injuries every day. Yangon made up the largest portion of these, with 215 accidents, 51 deaths, and 275 injuries that month.
