Celebrate free speech with Poetry Corner this Thursday

Poetry Corner is coming to Yangon this Thursday, and they want you to join in its celebration of poetry, free speech and reconciliation.

The group’s first event will be held at Ngar Sé/50, Yangon’s new space for creativity and collaboration located at 50 Bo Yar Nyunt Road.

Poetry Corner was founded a few years ago in Kuala Lumpur as a project to train confident speakers in primary schools. In Yangon, however, the group will exist to give poets and audiences a forum for enjoying spoken art together.

“It’s a lot like speakers corner in London. You come, bring a poem, stand on a wooden box and be applauded by adorning members of the public. The poem can be about anything you like!” said organizer Ryan Sherwin.
