COCONUTS HOT SPOT – It looked like it was all over.

In March, just a few weeks after opening, Yangon’s first reggae bar shut its doors. A glum Facebook post cited “community concerns” that needed to be resolved.

Turns out ya kyaan stop 7th Joint that easy.

On Friday night the dance-floor was grinding once again as the bar re-opened in the same Anawratha Road location with a massive party.

The soundtrack may have been more chart hits than strictly dancehall but the place was packed nonetheless.

“We’ve taken a lot of steps to resolve all community concerns and will continue to work with community leaders to ensure we’re mindful and respectful of our neighbours. So barring any unforeseen circumstances, yes we are back for good,” owner David Gartrell said in an email.

In awesome news for fans of Caribbean flavours, they’re doing food too.

Think jerk chicken (6,500 kyats), sweet and sour fish (6,000 kyats) and banana fritters (3,000 kyats).

7th Joint Bar and Grill can be found at G-A10, Shwe Asia Building, Corner of 47th Street and Anawratha Road. It’s open everyday from 5pm until late. Check out their Facebook page here.
