Woman who allegedly threw raw pork onto Muslim neighbour’s flat charged with hurting religious feelings

Since 2010, a Malay-Muslim lady living in Tampines has allegedly endured racism-fuelled harassment by a neighbour that —if true — would have been enough to drive anyone insane. Widow Marliah Jonet, 61, apparently faced vicious verbal abuse delivered by 63-year-old Lee Dji Lin for years.

As if that wasn’t enough, Lee allegedly threw a piece of raw pork outside Marliah’s flat on June 18 last year. A clip of Marliah’s alarming experience and CCTV footage of Lee’s alleged act was uploaded on YouTube by the widow’s sister-in-law.

Lee was charged yesterday in the State Courts with hurting religious feelings and the harassment of her neighbours at Block 247 along Tampines Street 21, Yahoo Singapore reports.

Other charges of harassment slapped on Lee include an incident in which Lee allegedly waved a pig-shaped figurine and screeched insults in Malay at Marliah’s daughter — one of which was “pig, pig, pig, piglet, one by one (your) children die”.

Lee is also accused of swinging a bamboo pole — attached with female underwear — towards Marliah’s flat.

Notwithstanding the captured footage, Lee maintained her innocence in court. She has since been ordered to be remanded for two weeks to undergo psychiatric evaluation before the case gets mentioned again on Feb 8.

For wounding religious or racial feelings alone, Lee could face up to three years in jail and/or a fine if convicted.
