If you’re thinking about buying a bag for a good cause, here’s your chance. On Mar. 6, a lady by the name of Pan Fion put up a post on Facebook announcing her parting with her prized Hermès Birkin bag. But instead of cold hard cash, she wanted to exchange it for S$13,888 worth of NTUC vouchers… to give out to low income families.

As the founder of Keeping Hope Alive — a community that helps underprivileged Singaporeans by visiting them, providing them with groceries or bus fare, refurbishing their homes, and caring for the sick elderly living on their own — Fion is no stranger to giving back to society.

But even she must’ve been surprised when a donor came along in response to her post and offered her S$11,000 worth of vouchers, all the while refusing to take the bag so that more money could be raised for the disadvantaged.

According to STOMP, Fion usually takes the low-income families to shop for groceries, so they can purchase what they need instead of taking in donated items that they may not be able to use.

She told the publication that her bag cost about S$18,000, but realized that it could bring about more good when given away in the name of helping others.

Just make sure you don’t get tricked by yet another gift voucher scam targeting the supermarket chain in the process of getting those vouchers for the needy.
