Geez, what would it take for people to stop believing in and perpetuating fake anecdotes about a syndicate of child kidnappers operating in shopping malls? The police have repeatedly dismissed viral rumors, and have even investigated cases of people lodging false reports about child abductors.

Now, it seems the paranoia caused by the viral rumors may have led to a kindhearted woman being wrongly condemned for allegedly trying to abduct a little girl at the Compass One mall. The woman became the subject of online defamation when someone uploaded a picture of her on social media, accusing her of being one of those shopping mall child abductors.

Turns out, the woman was just trying to help the poor child, who had been all alone and in tears. Identifying herself as the woman getting arrowed, she clarified that — being a mother herself — her intention was to help the toddler find her mother out of concern for the girl’s safety. And she did, so imagine her heartbreak when the woman realized that her good deed was twisted into something menacing.

“(The man) accused accused me of being an abductor without finding out the truth,” she wrote in a Facebook post, relating how the incrimination put her through a painful experience. “This post with my photo and arrow pointing at me had hurt me deeply.”

As such, she’s even lodged a police report against the accuser, and wants an apology from him.

Within hours, the man who threw out the accusation in the first place reached out to the lady and offered her a sincere apology.

Seems like he learned a lesson too.
