Not that we’ve always taken the spirit of Singaporean community for granted, but this video will definitely:

  • Make you feel all fuzzy inside
  • Feel proud that people of various cultures, races and religion banded together to save a cat
  • Elicit a few laughs, thanks to the frenzied celebrations that followed the rescue

So here’s the story: A small cat was trapped in a five storey-tall tree for days, and this small community united to do something about it.

As the video shows, multiple DIY safety nets were spread on the ground to catch the feline if it ever dropped, and dropped it did as it apparently tried to escape from the hands of a rescuer on the truck’s elevated platform.

The screams of shock may stop your heart for a second, leaving you with the impression that the feline fell to its death. Thankfully, the kitty turned out to be alive and well (albeit a little traumatised, probably), and was safely placed in a pet carrier soon after.

Humorously, a makcik cried as she cradled the cat after it was saved, with everyone else attempting to gently extract the cage away — so that they could bring it to the vet for examination — leading us to believe the cat belonged to her. She shot down that theory within seconds by repeatedly declaring “This is not my cat”. You could see the puzzled faces of her neighbours, but at the same time they let her love for the stray animal take its course.

While we’re not sure what happened to the cat afterwards – cats are banned as pets in HDB units after all – we hope it’s doing well. Either way, happy endings for everyone involved.
