Yo Republic Polytechnic, 2011 called and they want their outdated electro-pop song back. Nearly seven years since LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” was released (and extremely overplayed), the academic institution thought it’d be cool to bring it back to 2019 in a pretty cringeworthy back-to-school video.
The usual trappings apply. The clunky, uncoordinated group dancing. The odd font choice. The usage of #squad and “wefie”. The amateur cinematography. The Whip move. The anti-climatic beat drop.
It’s the new year and school starts today! Recognise these Instagram-mable places in RP? Tell us where you’ll snap your first “back to school” wefie and tag your #squad below! #lifeinRP #discoverRP #RPOH19 #newyearnewme pic.twitter.com/kSjIeKKhBb

If the purpose of the clip was to get students hyped for a new academic year — or even enroll at the polytechnic — it won’t do, chief. Heck, we’d even take a clip of the students dancing to that “Hit or Miss” song, because that’d be way more relevant these days. The cringe was felt.
I’m appalled to know that my brothers studying there. Hope this thingy isn’t infectious.
Cause I swear I’ll beat the crap out of his system. pic.twitter.com/zFeN9OIASZ
