Singapore’s first self-driving bus trial starts today, as part of a collaboration between the Land Transport Authority and Nanyang Technological University to develop and test autonomous bus technologies. After the design work is completed, the two 12-metre electric hybrid buses will take to the roads between NTU and CleanTech Park in Jurong, and eventually head between those two locations and Pioneer MRT station.
It’s all part of a vision to craft out a self-driving system featuring intelligent sensors that can navigate through Singapore’s roads and recharge at bus depots or bus stops.
Let’s just hope the buses don’t get into trouble like this first self-driving car accident that happened in Singapore just yesterday.
