Charities that give out free food for the needy are ever-present in Singapore, but charities that distribute free halal food for the less fortunate on a daily basis? It seems like Free Food For All (FFFA) could be the only one of its kind here.

Having doled out more than 320,000 meals to the underprivileged since its beginnings in 2014, the group was started by Nizar Shariff, a Singaporean businessman who sought to rekindle the “kampung” spirit by sharing free food for the community, by the community.

It was after he discovered most non-profit organizations were offering non-halal or vegetarian options that he decided to cater to those who consume halal meals. But although most of FFFA’s beneficiaries are Muslim, anyone who needs food can request for it, “regardless of race or religion”, he says.

The organization is powered by people from all walks of life, and counts a 74-year-old retiree among its volunteers, as well as a family who were once beneficiaries of the Daily Dinner Delivery programme, but have now stepped up to prepare meals for the residents in the neighborhood.
