Don’t @ us if this turns out to be a corporate publicity stunt, but the sight of a sweet auntie wanting to have a fancy lunch at a fast-food restaurant is just too pure.

In a slew of Instagram Stories recently sent in by an anonymous individual, a woman can be seen setting up her own furnishings at a table of an unknown KFC outlet. Said ornamentations included a red tablecloth, a vase of peach blossom flowers, a hot pot cooker, and even actual plates with chopsticks. Looks like someone’s stoked to have a reunion dinner way before Chinese New Year. If Goldspice fried chicken is on the menu as well, why not?

The situation even attracted the attention of the KFC outlet’s employee who seemed to be more amused than annoyed at the auntie’s attempt to pretty up her table.

“Untraditional meals”

Welp, turns out that it was a stunt. Yesterday evening saw KFC announcing that it’s all part of a campaign to promote their Chinese New Year special: the decidedly untraditional Parmesan Truffle Chicken. The fancy table setup — located at KFC’s Jurong Point outlet — is for customers to take pictures of to get a free piece of the chicken.

Untraditional it may be, but the chicken certainly looks intriguing enough to chomp into. Fingers crossed it won’t be as miserable as McDonald’s own Chinese New Year entrée.

Editor’s Note: Article updated to reflect that this was a publicity stunt. Sigh.
