You may have seen footage circulating on social media and WhatsApp of a taxi behaving strangely — the cab seemed to have been pushing a white mini bus backwards onto the pavement, before abruptly reversing and colliding into the opposite pavement across the road.

Well, before any fingers are pointed in any direction, the police said the Trans-Cab incident might have been a case of vehicle malfunction.

It is believed that the female cabbie was just about to drive off, but when she pressed the accelerator, the vehicle did not budge. So she exerted more force, and that’s when the taxi lurched forward and crashed into the mini bus. The same thing occurred when the driver attempted to reverse.

The police were notified of the incident, which took place at an open-air car park by Block 205 Serangoon Central, around 11:30pm on Monday (Jul 24). Channel NewsAsia reported that there were no injuries, and investigations are underway.

Trans-Cab declined to comment on the incident.
