Yeesh, this is one roadkill you do not want to see at night (or anytime, really). A pregnant wild boar was killed in an accident involving four cars and a motorcycle along Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) last night.

How did people know it was pregnant? Well, from the gory mash of guts and unborn piglets strewed across the road of course.

Pictures of the accident were first surfaced by Alex Soo on Facebook close to 11pm yesterday, but according to the police, the crash occurred at 7:40pm. Channel NewsAsia reported that three cars had been traveling on the right-most lane when the animal cross the expressway. Chaos ensued when two of the cars ran over the wild boar, while the third car crashed into the second car.

According to the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA), female wild boars can start reproducing at just 18 months of age and produce four to six piglets a year.

This incident arrives just days after a sambar deer was put down after getting involved in a car crash when it wandered into the BKE as well. The frequency of roadkill along the expressway is due to its close proximity to the Bukit Timah and Central Catchment nature reserves, prompting the National Parks Board to build Eco-Link @ BKE, a bridge just for wildlife.

Wild boars are native animals of Singapore, and in recent years, there has been an increase in the frequency of human-wild boar encounters as they wander into parks, public roads, and residential areas. Traffic accidents involving wild boars are not that rare, really. What is rare was this case of a rampaging wild boar being gunned down by a cop for endangering public safety.
