Tragic accident: Pedestrian in his 60s killed after bus runs over him at Toa Payoh interchange

In a tragic turn of events, a man in his 60s was run over by an SBS Transit bus on Thursday (July 7) morning. The accident occurred along Toa Payoh Lorong 6, just outside the bus interchange, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, according to a spokesman from the Singapore Civil Defence Force.

Passengers were on bus service number 238, about to depart from the interchange at 6.15am, when the driver told them to disembark because bus service number 235 in front of them had hit a pedestrian and was blocking the exit.

There was heavy traffic build-up around the area due to the accident, and SBS Transit apologised for the inconvenience caused, sending staff members to lend support with traffic diversion.

SBS Transit’s senior vice president for corporate communications Tammy Tan has relayed to The Straits Times that the company has been helping the police with their investigations. Their priority now is to get in touch with the family of the deceased and offer assistance.
