As they say in the movies – “One last ride.”

37-year-old Koo Kwok En had — with his wife’s Nissan GTR — participated in an illegal race along the Seletar Link stretch, driving at a top speed of 219km/h back in May 2015.

His challenger was 24-year old Kevin Pratama Chandra, who drove an orange Lamborghini.

According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Tan Zhongshan, Kevin was asked by Koo for a race, to which he agreed. Why in the world Koo would challenge a Lamborghini is beyond us, but there it is.

Just their luck that Traffic Police officers happened to be conducting an operation against illegal racing around that area at that period of time.

Courtesy of The Straits Times, let’s shorten the details about the race itself:

  • Koo and Kevin positioned their cars near a lamp post facing Seletar North Link, with the GTR on the right of the three-lane road and the Lamborghini in the middle.
  • They each acknowledged the start of the race, and accelerated rapidly after passing the lamp post.
  • The ‘end point’ was a lamp post 800-metres away from the original starting line.
  • After finishing the race (it’s unclear who won), they made an illegal U-turn before restarting the race down the same road.
  • They were stopped afterwards by the Traffic Police, and both cars were seized.

Dom Toretto would have been disappointed that they gave up their rides so easily. Just putting it out there.

Koo — a food and beverage manager — pleaded guilty to three charges in court yesterday: taking part in an unlawful race, driving at speeds dangerous to the public, and driving without insurance. Two more counts for repeating the same act after the initial race will be taken into consideration during the sentencing.

Currently, he is out on $5,000 bail and will return to court on April 13. Meanwhile, Kevin is scheduled to appear in court on April 19 for a pre-trial conference.

These people have certainly been living their lives a quarter mile at a time.
