Taxi crashes into Thai restaurant in Braddell after cabbie accidentally steps on accelerator

Thai Lily Restaurant just opened their doors for the dinner crowd last night when they got something a little less amiable — a yellow CityCab crashing right through into the premises.

Located near Braddell MRT station, the Thai food joint along Toa Payoh Lorong 1 had its tables and chairs strewn across the restaurant, according to footage of the aftermath caught by The Straits Times. Luckily, the accident occured just when the restaurant opened around 5pm; there were no diners inside when the taxi ploughed into its foyer.

According to ComfortDelGro (they run CityCab), the driver was making a three-point to exit the carpark, but accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the taxi to surge forward into the shop.

Sustaining slight injuries, the 61-year-old cabbie has since received treatment at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. The taxi was towed away later at 6.50pm.

Though business was disrupted last night for the popular restaurant, Thai Lily management expressed their sincere wishes for the taxi driver’s speedy recovery, and thanked all who helped them after the crash.
