Jack’s Place, the family-friendly steakhouse that’s been around for years, recently saw its Paya Lebar Square outlet suspended by the National Environment Agency (NEA) due to a cockroach infestation. The restaurant received six demerit points for failing to rid its premises of roaches, and the suspension came about after it accumulated 12 demerit points over the last 12 months, as well as a fine totalling $800. For failing to register an assistant, the chain restaurant had been dealt another six points.
Jack’s Place at Paya Lebar Square will be suspended from May 3 to May 16.
According to the NEA, a licensee with 12 or more demerit points over a period of a year can have its license suspended for two or four weeks, or revoked — depending on previous records.
As such, all food handlers at the affected Jack’s Place branch will have to attend and pass the mandatory Basic Food Hygiene Course again before they can go back to work.
