Stuck brake disrupts Bukit Panjang LRT services for over 2 hours

Damn Bukit Panjang LRT, back at it again with the breakdowns. Residents presumably sighed in resignation when LRT services in their neighbourhood got disrupted again yesterday evening — for two entire hours.

During the evening rush hours around 5.10pm, a two-car LRT train encountered a stuck brake on the way to Phoenix station from Bukit Panjang station. Passengers had walk out onto the tracks back to Bukit Panjang station and use the bus bridging services while SMRT conducted repairs.

Full service only resumed at 7.10pm when engineers managed to release the brakes.

The ageing Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT) system may have its regular share of faults and issues — but residents would never entertain the idea of doing away with the whole thing. Managing Director of SMRT Trains Lee Ling Wee assured that they’re cooking up ways to improve the service as the BPLRT comes to the end of its 20-year lifespan in 2019.
