A 42-year-old woman caught on tape verbally abusing and spitting at a KFC employee was charged with multiple criminal counts today and will defend herself in trial.

Lin Si Ting was charged with intentional harassment, use of criminal force and breaching safe-distancing measures over the April incident that took place during peak public anxiety over the coronavirus pandemic. She is contesting the charges and will represent herself at a pre-trial conference on July 1.

The woman was arrested for causing public nuisance two days after the KFC outlet at Serangoon’s NEX shopping mall filed a police complaint against her. Footage of the volatile, April 22 encounter showed her spitting and hurling death threats with her mask down at KFC employee Beniga Analou Gomez because she was unhappy she had to wait for her order.

Depending on how things go in court, she could pay a steep penalty for the outburst of anger.

If found guilty of intentional harassment, she faces six months’ jail time and a S$5,000 fine. For the use of criminal force, she faces another three months in jail and a S$1,500 fine. The safe distancing charge brings a maximum penalty of six months behind bars and fine of S$10,000.
