On Saturday, a 50-year-old man was arrested at Woodland Checkpoint around 5am for drink driving. A police spokesman told TODAY that investigations were ongoing, but refrained from naming the suspect.

Nothing too out of the ordinary, except a report by The Straits Times identified the individual as Alvin Kek, the chief operations officer of SMRT Trains. The publication stated that Kek’s father had recently passed away, and when TODAY asked SMRT about the incident, the rail operator requested for privacy for its staff member without naming the executive.

SMRT vice-president for corporate communications Margaret Teo explained that the case was under police investigation, and thus it was “not appropriate for the company to comment as it concerns a personal matter”.

She also asked that the staff member’s privacy be respected, “especially under the circumstances of his recent bereavement”.

According to TODAY, Kek was a Chief Engineer Officer with the Singapore Armed Forces before he took over the position of senior vice president for rail operations at SMRT, followed by his current role that he assumed earlier this year.
