SMRT bendy bus somehow gets stuck for 10 hours in muddy field at Kim Keat Avenue

An SMRT bus driver made a wrong turn on the way to Kranji Depot and decided to make a U-turn… on a field.

It clearly turned out to be a very unwise decision and ended exactly as expected — badly. The wheels of the heavy bendy bus sunk into the soft earth and got itself stuck on a field behind Block 195 along Kim Keat Avenue.

There it remained unbudgeable for about 10 hours since midnight yesterday, as residents woke up to what seemed like surrealist installation art in their neighbourhood.

The Straits Times reported that workers from a tow truck company had tried in vain several times to reach the bus with their tow vehicles.

It was only around 10.10am today that the bus was finally removed from the mud when the towing team attached a chain to the rear end of the bus chassis to drag the vehicle out. The rougher method risked damaging the bendy bus, but hey, it proved to be effective.

An SMRT spokesperson apologised to residents for the noise from the extrication of the bus, and assured that they would be investigating the matter.
