Sixty suspects arrested for various offences after 3-day raid in Geylang

The police conducted a three-day multi-agency joint operation that ended on Friday (Jul 21) and resulted in the arrest of 60 suspects for numerous offences. In a news release, the police said that the operation was spread across the streets and hotels of Geylang, and was led by Bedok Police Division, with the help of enforcement officers from the Singapore Customs, Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, Criminal Investigation Department and Health Sciences Authority.

According to the statement, four men were arrested for “peddling contraband cigarettes and illegal sale of cough mixtures and tablets”. The items seized had an estimated street value of more than $11,000. Another seven women were arrested for vice-related offences that took place in residential units, and four men were arrested for drug-related offences.

The police also added that 44 men — aged between 17 and 65 — were arrested for promoting public gaming and gaming in public. The last arrest was a 34-year-old male who was handcuffed under the Secret Society Act.

Investigations are ongoing.
