Scenes of normalcy have returned to Singapore today with diners supping at coffee shops after midnight and early birds having their first breakfasts outside for the first time in months.
As the city-state enters its second phase of reopening, scenes of life – and business – returning have cropped up in photos taken around the city as crowds of commuters take public transport and shoppers enter stores again.
“First day of phase two: crowds don’t look too bad! This is at Havelock Road [food court],” Instagrammer Gregory Leow wrote this morning alongside a photo of diners maintaining social distance while enjoying breakfast at the hawker center in Tiong Bahru.

“Familiar scene of eating at coffee shops is back,” a caption on the Singapore Atrium Sale page read, showing photos of diners at coffee shops after midnight.
Shopping and dining in resumes in Singapore today with social distancing measures, temperature checks, and contact tracing continue to be in place.
Dining in at eateries is allowed to resume but limited to five people per table, with sales and consumption of liquor ceasing at 10:30pm. Live music as well as television and video screenings will not be allowed.
Sports, parks, and other public facilities such as stadiums, swimming pools, playgrounds, beaches, lawns and fields, hard courts, gyms, fitness studios, bowling centers, and function rooms have also reopened, including those at condominiums and clubs.
Personal health and wellness and home-based services including massages and spas, and registered clubs and societies have also resumed.
The second phase of Singapore’s reopening begins as the city-state continues to report hundreds of new cases at migrant worker dormitories.
Singapore reported 257 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, pushing the total number of known cases to 41,473. Most were migrant workers, who have been disproportionately inflicted by the coronavirus. Only 8,735 of Singapore’s total cases are currently active. The official death toll stands at 26.
The city-state may consider tightening rules again in the event of any new spikes in cases.
