A Singaporean student arrested for importing a child-like sex doll into Australia has received two years’ probation and been registered as a sex offender there.
Australian authorities said Saturday that the unnamed 27-year-old man pleaded guilty in the Perth District Court to possessing child abuse materials and importing contraband goods, over a year after his January 2020 arrest. His student visa is being reviewed.
“The Judge also ordered that the man be placed on the Sex Offenders Register,” the Australian Border Force police announced, adding: “In light of the man’s convictions his immigration status in Australia is now under review.”

While the man was sentenced to 11 months in jail for both offenses, he was released under a two-year good behavior bond.
He was charged last year after he ordered the doll from China. That doll was intercepted at the Perth air cargo on Christmas Eve in 2019. Police later raided his home in the Beckenham suburb and confiscated his laptop, a hard drive, computer tower, and mobile phone, on which they found child abuse material. Police did not elaborate on those materials.
The maximum penalty for importing child-like sex dolls into Australia was 10 years’ jail and a fine of up to AU$555,000 (about US$440,000).
Chinese manufacturers have faced outrage in recent years for making and selling dolls that resemble children for sexual gratification. Australia banned them after the border force said it seized dozens of them. Most were smuggled from China and Japan, it said.
