Surprisingly, for a country that heralds chicken rice, chilli crab, satay, fish head curry, and other meat-filled fares as essential cuisine, Singapore is considered one of the most vegetarian-friendly countries in the world.

That is, according to travel blog Oliver’s Travels, which recently released the results of its Global Vegetarian Index that ranked every country from best to worst for vegetarian travelers. Extremely picky vegan travelers, however, will universally have a hard time.

Singapore landed in sixth spot on the index, below the likes of Southeast Asian neighbors Thailand (#2) and Malaysia (#3). This, despite Singapore being counted among one of the biggest meat eaters in the top 10 list, with an annual meat consumption per capita of 71.1kg. At least we make it up with a big number of vegetarian restaurants (654) — but even so, that’s nothing compared to Thailand’s 908 and Malaysia’s 1,185.

The crown (made out of carrots and celery, presumably) for the most vegetarian-friendly country in the world goes to the African nation of Seychelles, which scored high for its huge amount of vegetarian-friendly restaurants in proportion to its small population and low annual meat consumption. The United States (#30) unsurprisingly had the highest annual consumption of meat, but (ironically) is also the country with the most vegetarian restaurants.

The likes of Kiribati, Djibouti, the Central African Republic, and North Korea landed in the bottom end of the list for having no vegetarian restaurants at all.
