It’s been a pretty harrowing week with two back-to-back terror attacks in Manchester and Jakarta, and Singapore is determined not to see a repeat of these incidents on our shores.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has beefed up security measures in the country, with more checks and patrols in place at key locations, including air, land and sea checkpoints.

“We will continue to monitor the developments closely and calibrate security measures according to the threat environment,” said an MHA spokesperson to TODAY.

Singapore has been fortunate in the matters of the two horrendous acts of terror in the UK and Jakarta — the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) confirmed that there have been no reports of Singaporeans directly affected or injured in both incidents. A suicide bomber took the lives 22 people (including children) when he carried out the attack at the end of Ariana Grande’s concert at Manchester Arena, while another suicide bomber killed three police officers on duty at the Kampung Melayu Bus Terminal in East Jakarta.

In both cases, ISIS claimed responsibility for the atrocities.
