Bid farewell to the super-cold, ultra-windy days of January and say hello to the warm, dry days of February.

The Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) noted yesterday that we’re entering into the dry phase of the Northeast Monsoon, and that means dry, warm, and occasionally windy conditions forecasted in the first half of February. Still, there could be some days with passing showers and cooler temperatures (!) due to a weak monsoon surge pushing cold winds over Singapore.

But temperature-wise, it’s bad news. Daily temperatures are forecasted to range between 24°C and 33°C, and could reach a high of around 34°C on a few days — but it could also range between 23°C and 24°C on windy or rainy days.

“January 2018 was an eventful month for Singapore weather,” said the MSS in a rather gross understatement. The first week of the year saw moderate to thundery showers from three different weather systems, stated MSS, comprising of localized thunderstorms, Sumatra squalls, and monsoon surges. Then in the last two days of January, hailstones and a waterspout were observed.

Last month’s daily minimum temperature had been (as we all know) pretty frickin’ sweet as well, ranging between 21.2°C and 24.1°C. Rainfall levels were well above normal too, with the highest amount of rainfall — 502.4mm — recorded at Paya Lebar. That’s 119 percent above average, according to MSS.

But that’s all in the past now. Time to shed our layers and gear up for the usual Singapore sun.
