The heavy rain across the island yesterday was a very welcome relief from the February heat, but the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) very much expects the rest of the month to be pretty warm. Alas.
The prevailing dry phase of the Northeast Monsoon season is expected to extend into the second half of February, according to MSS, and the dry and warm weather experienced over Singapore is forecast to persist. Localized short-duration thundery showers can still be expected on some days though, particularly in the afternoon. Overall, however, the amount of rainfall for the month is still likely to be “well below normal”.
“With dry and warm conditions expected for the rest of the month, the daily maximum temperature could rise to around 34°C especially on days with little or no rain and when winds are light,” wrote MSS. Most days will see daily temperatures ranging between 24°C and 33°C.
Dry, warm weather has been nothing new since the start of February — especially so in the eastern half of Singapore, which have been generally dry in the past two weeks. The highest daily maximum temperature, however, was recorded at Admiralty on Feb 9, where the mercury rose to 34.8°C. Ah, how we miss the cold spell last year.
