A raid on an illegal drug manufacturing lab in Yishun on Wednesday resulted in the arrest of two men and the seizure of 2.6kg of synthetic cannabis. The tri-agency operation — conducted by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) and supported by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) — started off with CNB officers observing two suspected drug offenders at Yishun Industrial Street 1 in the morning.

The two male Singaporean suspects, aged 40 and 45, were initially seen entering a unit in the industrial building, according to a media release by the CNB. After further observation, CNB officers raided the unit and arrested the pair. When they noticed a pungent stench inside, they immediately left the unit with the suspects.

A team of HazMat (Hazardous Materials) specialists from the SCDF was called in to investigate the strange smell. After ascertaining that the air in the room was hazardous, the team conducted a controlled ventilation of the unit.

Once it was assessed to be safe to enter, CNB and HSA officers did a thorough search of the unit, seizing a total of 2.6kg of synthetic cannabis and 500g of an unknown powdery substance.

Both men are currently under investigation for the unauthorized manufacturing of controlled drugs. If convicted, they may face a minimum of 10 years in jail and five strokes of the cane.
