Property agent charged with murder of pregnant wife and 4-year-old child; bodies found burnt

What little festive mood remaining in Woodlands Drive 52 has been completely silenced with the arrest of 41-year-old real estate agent Teo Ghim Heng for murder.

His 39-year-old wife, Choong Pei Shan, and their four-year old daughter, Teo Zi Ning, were found dead in a flat at Block 619 on Saturday. Choong was said to have been six months pregnant when she was allegedly murdered.

Soot stains were found at the corridor outside their flat — the bodies of the victims were burnt, according to TODAY. Teo allegedly killed them on the morning of Jan 20, but it was only eight days later (the first day of Chinese New Year) that police were alerted to the case. The bodies of the mother and daughter were found in the bedroom of the flat, and Teo was arrested that same night.

The couple moved into the block some years back, and kept a rather low profile even among their neighbours.

Mdm Choong was known to have undergone several miscarriages before she finally had a child. Neighbours speaking to The Straits Times described the mother and her daughter as ‘inseparable’.

One neighbour of the block, who wanted to be known only as Mrs Yeo, said that she spoke to Mdm Choong once last year, but described her as ‘polite’, and that the mother/daughter pair would often be seen walking together.

Teo has since been charged with the murder of his wife, and will have his case mentioned again next Monday. It’ll be the death penalty if he is found guilty.
