This Pasir Ris resident is taking the term concrete jungle to a whole other level

It’s just eight tiny meters of corridor of a Pasir Ris neighborhood apartment block, but you could be forgiven for thinking you’d just stepped into a jungle.

The area in question is so cluttered with flora that even finding the flat owner’s door is a challenge, according to Chinese-language outlet Lianhe Wanbao, which on Sunday noted that there were more than 80 potted plants outside the flat.

If you’re thinking this sort of overgrown, ill-planned jungle might not fly in our order-obsessed neck of the woods, you’d be right. Turns out much of this riot of vegetation is crowding into the common areas, something the neighbors aren’t exactly happy about.

One neighbor took to local “citizen journalism” website Stomp to air her grievances, saying the number of plants made it tough for neighbors to pass through the corridor and was actually becoming a legit fire hazard.

In a post on the site, she said the plants have been there since she moved into her flat some 11 years ago. “When I raised the issue with my neighbour, she simply said that she loves plants,” she wrote.

Photos posted to the site show numerous potted plants on the ledge of the block and thick vegetation running right to the end of the corridor.

The resident in question, meanwhile, has since taken her gripes from the online realm to the real-life one, the one with local officials who can actually do something about it.

Speaking to The New Paper, a spokesman from the Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council said they take a “serious view of obstruction” in common areas and that the resident has since removed some of the plants along the corridor and from the staircase landing.

No word if they’ve moved enough to keep the neighbors happy, but hey, it’s a start.
