This is a part-hilarious, part-heartwarming tale of Pokemon Go uniting strangers with a jog

Not all news related to Pokémon Go is negative. Take this encounter detailed by Facebook user Tan Eng Teck, for example.

He talks about his experience playing Pokémon Go at Bishan Park, just two days after the game launched in Singapore. And parts of the story are kinda unbelievable. Hilarious, too. But if your attention span doesn’t allow for you to read the entire thing, here are some noteworthy points.

  • Tan starts off his tale by explaining how families, interest communities and friends have spent time at Bishan Park through the years without any real interaction between the different groups.
  • Then Pokémon Go came along.
  • Within 48 hours of the game’s debut in Singapore, Tan found himself teaching loads of strangers how to share and hunt for pokémon.
  • Deep conversations and get-to-know-you encounters ensued.
  • Here’s the best one:
  • After helping a bunch of strangers locate a few pokémon in Bishan Park around midnight, Tan’s pokémon radar on his phone found a Growlithe on a 12-minute timer about 1.2km away. He told the people around him to go ahead and catch it without him, as he was tired. But none of them had iPhones to download the app and pinpoint the pokémon’s location.
  • They were disappointed. And lost. No one knew what to do.
  • Then, out of nowhere, a ridiculously buff dude in a commando army singlet stepped forward and scrutinised the map. With the flick of his finger, he switched on his stopwatch and proceeded to take control of the random group of people, who were all excited to catch the Growlithe.
  • ‘9 minutes and 30 seconds left!’, the muscular saviour shouted. He broke into a jog, with the entire group enthusiastically following behind and cheering.
  • Later on, Tan crossed paths with a young couple exchanging phone numbers and another group of secondary school kids (who just became friends) heading off to supper.
  • Tan went on to nab a couple more pokémon and ended off his night walking home and chatting with two new acquaintances who lived nearby.

Seems like Pokémon Go can bring out the very best (like no one ever was) in each of us.
