Otter family spotted gamboling on Changi Airport tarmac during heavy downpour

Two of the country’s most beloved entities met at Changi Airport earlier this morning: Singapore Airlines and Singapore’s otters.

Otter families have been spotted across various spots across the island, but this would probably be the first time they’re spotted gamboling at Changi Airport. On the tarmac, no less, underneath SIA aircraft.

Though it looks cute and all, it is pretty concerning to see the critters looking confused as they make their way around on the tarmac, seemingly trying to escape the heavy downpour. It gets even more worrying when you realize they could wander a wee bit too close to the airport’s runways, and get into an accident with arriving and departing planes.

Wandering wildlife at runways have caused airports to close before — in India, stray animals frequently pose major threats to air safety in the country, with the likes of hyenas, jackals, monkeys, and dogs causing flight schedules to be disrupted. Earlier this year, migrating diamondback turtles caused delays at JFK International Airport.
