This old Singaporean anti-smoking campaign is so ’80s you’ll dig out your fanny packs and shoulder pads

Turtlenecks? Cheesy synth track? Roller skates? Denim jackets? Big hoop earrings? Damn, this blast from the past ticks all the boxes for everything from the 1980s. 

Diggers of historical video archives The Merlion Press brought forth this golden nugget from a forgotten era on their Facebook page — an elaborate (and so ’80s) anti-smoking campaign ad. First aired in 1987, you can see how they targeted the younger audience through song and er… dancing in the middle of Wisma Atria (we think). Did it help to curb smoking among youths though? Who cares, it was the ’80s, man.
