New Zika cases seem to pop up every week this past month. The National Environment Agency (NEA) confirmed the existence of two new cases of locally transmitted Zika virus infection at Poh Huat Terrace and Terrasse Lane.

The new cluster isn’t that far from the two other clusters that’ve emerged this year — Simon Place, as well as the Flower Road and Hendry Close area. All of the clusters are in Hougang.

Operations to eliminate the mosquito population in the new area are being conducted, while the NEA is still keeping the Simon Place cluster under surveillance.

But the existence of new Zika cases isn’t causing as much of a panic as it did during the outbreak last year. Folks must have realized that although the disease does pose a risk to pregnant women, it’s not worth the hysterics.

“Members of the public are advised to seek medical attention if they are unwell, especially with symptoms such as fever and rash”, wrote the NEA. “They should also inform their doctors of the location of their residence and workplace”.
