Murtabak Malaise: Victory clears up false accusations made by rivals Zam Zam of practising black magic

Like Coke and Pepsi, Marvel and DC, Microsoft and Apple, the rivalry between North Bridge Road restaurants Singapore Zam Zam and Victory is a tale as old as time. With both eateries in business for literally over a hundred years, it’s a murtabak-fueled war that can, and has, escalated into inhumane violence.

The latest development in this delicious conflict? Zam Zam has accused its fierce rivals of using the occult to somehow cast a curse over its premises, a claim that Victory has completely dismissed.

Zam Zam — whose staff were treated to a minor pilgrimage to the Muslim holy land of Mecca earlier this year — cast the first stone by posting on its Facebook page a CCTV clip that apparently captured someone from Victory attempting a black magic ritual by pouring an unknown substance in front of its shuttered premises last Friday night.

The clip quickly went viral (as these things often do), but some sensible netizens weren’t that naive. Someone reached out to Victory to get a clarification, and as it turns out, there was nothing malicious or supernatural about the video. Just a Victory employee trying to get rid of pests from its own premises — the individual was simply pouring powdered insecticide.

Someone else pointed out proof that the man in the video was really pouring the powder outside Victory, and not Zam Zam as originally insinuated from the video.

Victory also issued its own statement in response to the viral clip, assuring that nothing shady was happening. Of course, it couldn’t resist poking fun at its neighbors:

“Also, for your information, none of our employees were caught by the police for attacking a neighbor’s restaurant staff like some OTHER guys who spread fake news — we always believe in doing business the right way.” Ouch.

Zam Zam has since removed the video from its Facebook page, but it made no mention about that little defamatory stunt that backfired badly. A netizen who wrote a post about why he no longer patronizes Zam Zam claimed that someone from the restaurant sent him messages filled with “profanities”, demanding that the post be taken down.

So! With all the facts laid bare, are you Team Zam Zam or Team Victory?
