In an effort to bring awareness to the annoyances faced by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) Parliamentary Secretary for Home Affairs Amrin Amin shared some of the silliest calls and request made to emergency hotline operators here.
One caller dialed 995 because he woke up with a headache, while another thought that an ambulance was required to head to the hospital for a blood test.
Someone even called the hotline because he was unable to take a piss after downing three beers.
Amrin, also a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Woodlands division of Sembawang GRC, reminded the public to be responsible when dialing 995. The emergency hotline shouldn’t be used for non-emergencies — there’s the 1777 number to call for a non-emergency ambulance. Or, you know, just head to a clinic nearby.
“995 is for serious, life-threatening emergencies,” he wrote in a post. “A minute can make a difference between life and death.”
Even more silly calls
In the comments section of the Facebook post, others (presumably emergency hotline operators) shared their own experiences with receiving odd calls that don’t require ambulances at all. The best one? A call made by a condo resident to complain that a fire station nearby wasn’t being considerate as the sirens were too loud.
