Since Changi Airport’s opening on July 1, 1981, it has seen over a billion passengers pass through its doors. In case you’re not good with numbers, that’s a lot of people who’ve been to the world’s best airport.

Last month was when the award-winning airport passed its one billion mark, and it’s already on its way to welcome a record 60 million passengers this year. In comparison, its passenger traffic numbers were 20 million in 1994, 30 million in 2004 and 58.7 million last year.

Back when Changi Airport first opened, it saw 34 airlines operating flights to 67 cities; now, the airport connects the Little Red Dot to over 380 cities via 120 airlines. That amounts to more than 7,000 flights each week, with a plane taking off or landing every 90 seconds.

And when Terminal 4 makes its debut in the second half of this year, the total annual passenger capacity of the airport could go up to 85 million by 2020.
