McDonald’s Singapore announced this afternoon its stores will not reopen as planned next week and instead will remain closed indefinitely.

Two weeks after the fast food chain shuttered all outlets after a number of its employees became infected, McDonald’s announced online today it will stay closed longer as a precautionary measure. No new reopening date was given.

“While we’ve been allowed to restart operations from May 4 under the essential services framework, we’ve decided to extend our closure for just a little longer for the safety and well-being of our employees and customers,” the company said online today.

It also said that all seven employees who contracted COVID-19 were recovering from their illness.

“We would also like to share that since our last update, we’ve had no new Covid-19 cases and all our 7 affected employees are on the road to recovery. Many of you have sent your well-wishes – on behalf of our employees, we thank you so much,” they wrote.

They reportedly worked at nine locations including Lido, Forum Galleria, Parklane, and Geylang East Central.

The chain thanked its fans for their well-wishes and reiterated that employees would continue to be paid with none laid off, despite the closures.

“Our frontline employees are important to us and we wish for all of them to stay home a little longer. They can also be rest assured that their jobs are secure, and that they will be paid their salaries during this temporary closure,” the statement said.
