The 28-year-old man who abandoned an unconscious 6-month-old at Singapore General Hospital was arrested on Monday after authorities found him hiding out at an apartment in Woodlands.

According to a joint statement by the Singapore Police Force and Central Narcotics Bureau yesterday, they found him in a residential unit on Woodlands Streets 13, where they also discovered 19 grams of methamphetamine along with drug-related paraphernalia.

The man had on Saturday handed the baby, which was in critical condition, to a nurse at SGH before fleeing by car.

Officials clarified in their statement that police had chased after him along Kampong Bahru Road, not Jalan Bukit Merah as previously reported, before intercepting the man’s car at Lower Delta Road, where he exited his vehicle and fled on foot.

His girlfriend, who is also the mother of the baby, has already been arrested. Officials said that the baby is receiving medical attention.

The man is being investigated for child abuse and drug-related offenses as well as traffic charges related to the chase. He faces up to four years’ jail and a S$4,000 (about US$3,000) fine if found guilty of child abuse, and up to 10 years’ jail and a S$20,000 fine if convicted of drug consumption.
