A mix of drunk and stupid are suspected in a man’s random act of violence in which he flung a sign onto a young child then just walked away before her disbelieving caretakers.

Two men were strolling in front of the Sri Layan Sithi Vinayagar Temple on Keong Saik Road when one of them smacked the yellow wet pavement sign, according to footage of the encounter, which struck the young girl and made her cry. The man’s friend remained to pick up the sign and face a woman, possibly the girl’s mother, who threatened to call the police.

“You can’t do that to a child!” the unidentified woman seems to shout before demanding their names and identification numbers so that she could report them to the police.

The clip ends with her carrying the child while tailing the friend. It’s unclear if any action was taken.

Social media posts said the incident took place at around 8:30pm. Some eyewitnesses said the attacker was part of a group who seemed to be intoxicated and had been singing loudly.

“Gosh my friend and I saw them when they were walking past The Guild earlier and they were drunk and singing ‘Country Road’ at the top of their voices at 8 plus PM,” Instagram user Geri.gpy said, referring to a restaurant in the area that used to be packed with bar-hoppers before the pandemic struck.
