A long chunk of plaster fell off a structure and landed right on a very unfortunate man outside Wanderlust Hotel along Dickson Road on Tuesday night.

Footage captured in the aftermath depicted a man in a daze and visible pain, struggling to stand up. Passersby attended to him as he laid down on the pavement, waiting for an ambulance to arrive. Someone tried to pull the man away from the scene, but others wiser than him warded him off.

(PS: This should apply to all accidents — extra spinal precautions should be taken as nobody knows for sure what an impact has done to the neck or spine. Leave the movement of patients to the paramedics and trained medical personnel.)

A spokesperson for the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) confirmed to Channel NewsAsia that an architectural feature outside Wanderlust hotel fell off from the second floor of the building. The debris involved a plaster feature estimated to be 4 meters by 0.3 meters in size.

“As an immediate precautionary measure, the affected area directly below, where the architectural feature had fallen from the building, and other parts of the building facade with the similar feature have been cordoned off,” noted the BCA spokesperson, adding that the building owner has been instructed to conduct investigations and rectifications by a professional engineer.

The victim, believed to be a 35-year-old Malaysian national, was conveyed conscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital after an ambulance was called for about 11:40pm. He reportedly sustained spinal injuries and was not able to move his lower body.
