A car crash that saw a Honda Civic smash into a concrete barrier at Raffles Boulevard on Thursday (Aug 10) morning resulted in the death of the 29-year-old male driver. The victim, identified as Ng Phing Keen, eventually succumbed to his injuries at Singapore General Hospital.

It is believed that he had lost control of his vehicle, which skidded and collided into the barrier.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force dispatched a fire engine, a Red Rhino, an ambulance and a support vehicle to the scene after it was notified at 2:50am. Ng was discovered trapped in his car, and he was extricated using hydraulic tools.

The extent of his injuries was unclear, but photos on STOMP showed the front of the car badly battered by the impact. The Straits Times reported that Ng’s Facebook profile showed he was a car enthusiast with a car accessories business called Keen’s Car Stuff.

Investigations are ongoing.
